Matty Lindores is a young FMX rider whose star is definitely on the rise. The 21 year old Gold Coast rider has been riding comps for just over 18 months and is as well known for his super aggressive style, massive whips and trick ingenuity on the bike as he is for his laid back and keep it real attitude off the bike. Matty signed with Slur Destructive at the end of last year and has been flying the flag high ever since. Joel Rayner caught up with Matty to get the down low on what makes the kid tick.

-I’m going to say beer, and maybe a little Canadian club and dry. But mainly just beer.
Now that we’ve got that out of the way, lets get down to business. Lets start from the beginning , I know your whole family is really big on surfing, what got you into FMX?
I’m scarred of deep water and I don’t like sharks. Dirt bikes seemed a much safer option.
You made your debut on the Aussie FMX scene at round 3 of the 2008 RFDmx underground tour, what expectations did you have coming into your first nationally recognized comp?
I was shitting myself, it was only the 3rd time i’d ever hit 75ft. In the end I was just really happy to meet a good bunch of blokes. It was definitely a really fun time.
18 months on, what goals does Matt Lindores have for 2010?
Ride, Ride, Ride everything I can, I want to do every demo and comp I can get my hands on and really just have fun with it. I know I can’t ride forever so I really want to enjoy the time i’ve got on the bike.
A lot of fellow riders have dubbed you as the next big thing in Aussie FMX, does the expectations of your fellow riders whey any pressure on you? Or are you keen to just keep taking it as it comes?
Nah not really, no pressure, I’m stoked to be getting that sort of love from the lads, it means a lot coming from your fellow riders, but its really all about just having fun with the boys and chasing the girls.
Your currently riding the Yamaha YZ250 2stroke, with the way the recent trends towards 4strokes are going do you see your self staying aboard the dinger to the bitter end or biting the bullet and learning these 4stroke things farmers have been telling us about for so many years?
Nah mate I plan to stay on the hummmmdinger to the bitter end. They’ve still got a couple of good years left in them yet.
You joined the Slur Destructive family towards the end of last year. What made you sign on the dotted line with Slur over some of the new companies coming through?
Slur has a better history with their riders and understands riders, they’re not just an image. They’ve been around the scene since the begging so you know they’re here for the long run. Plus the threads are sweet.
You’ve been smarter than most kids of your generation and while riding like a demon you’ve also buckled down with your trade. How do you feel working full time as well as pursuing your riding is working out? Does one take away from the other or does the balance of work and play make it all worth while?
It makes it all worth while, even though I now don’t have a savings account. I work to live, not live to work. My old man always told me to chase my dreams but have something to fall back on so I’m pretty stoked I’ve got a solid trade under my belt.
Tell us something random that most people wouldn’t know about you?
Ummm shit dude that’s a tuff one. Well I enjoy drawing, but I fucking suck at it so no one really knows about it. And i shouldn’t be telling you this haha.
