Island fever 2010

Island Fever 2010, started with a bang, a carton of rockstar bursting open and unloading its contents all over the Caravan Parks fresh new road.

As the sun raised its head and the blue sky arrived Friday in Hobart Tasmania was looking to be a scorcher….. The Landbruiser, DLA11D and L091RL were the first to arrive early in the day and im sure all the mainland crew were relieved to finally arrive after their three state mission.  The festivities for Friday evening kicked off with a killer outdoor cinema, premiering the fresh new flick from SIKNESS DVD.  With Rockstar galore being given away, the attendees were bouncing off the walls, much to the delight of the Tourist Park operators.  The night continued with great success, a mountain of beverages were consumed, plenty a yarn was told and many a new friendship were forged.

Saturday Morning arrived, along with the goon head aches and the sour taste of beer.  A few more local crew arrived at the park, packing some fresh new mods.  The Saturday Cruise was set to be a winner, with crystal clear blue sky and over 100 keen as funk truckers and custom owners this event was ready to rock and roll.

The sun was shining as the Cruise made its way up the East Coast of Tasmania, heading to Orford a little sea side town known for its relaxed atmosphere.  We rolled into Orford with no issue and within no time the bar was open and the meals were ordered.  The Blue Waters Tavern were kind enough to open their doors to us and host this great event for 2010.  Blue Waters made easily the best and biggest Chicken Schnitzel burger I’ve ever eaten!  The beers were flowing, judging was underway and the crew were buzzing with anticipation for the Club games.  First game of the day was the Rockstar Carton throwing, this involved a carton of Rockstar energy water being thrown the furthest, the winner takes home the carton he throws.  Take into account, these cartons were bloody heavy, so they really didn’t go to far and when the carton hit the ground it was like a fat kid jumping into a pool, the drinks went every which way!  Next up we had the annual tug of war, the cocky Northern Crew were keen as to defeat the much stronger and better looking Southern Team, I was out with an injury but the Southern crew handled it well without me, eventually winning three out of three.  Next up was the Mainland crew versus the Tasmanians, even though we have two heads it was a fair battle, with the mainlanders pulling a sneaky one out of the hat, the old one, two, three LET GO…….thus then putting the Tasmanians on their butts.  After two solid attempts and two times on their butts the Tasmanians walked away the winners.  Our third game was set to be a laugh and a half, a relay which involved egg and spoon, three legged race and watermelon eating.  Three teams battled it out for bragging rights, after a very humorous relay, many a spill and plenty of dirty tactics the female team walked away victorious - the female team is one to beat in 2011 - well done ladies!

The Saturday Night arrived and all those attending gathered at the Tourist Park awaiting their transport to dinner.  If you had driven past the venue you would have thought you were seeing things, but it was actually 100 people dressed as either a punk, bogan or a mexican.  It was quite the sight for sore eyes, some of the best costumes seen in years and its now clear some people have a little mexican, punk or bogan in their blood!!!  Dinner was all you could eat and was a fantastic feast, perfect for lining the belly for a night of drinking.  The 14 Trophies were presented to the winners of each category and the Big Kahuna(best of show) going to DLA11D- well done Trav!  The raffle was one of the biggest in years, the freebies just never ended with most people securing something, thank god for generous sponsors - we love you guys!  As the dinner ended, it was time to bust a move back on the bus and head to the party of 2010.  We secured the use of a barn on a private residence of which we had decorated and set up with a bloody awesome lights show.  To match the awesome light show we had two of Tassie’s sickest bands, Ballpoint and Running with Scissors.  These two bands tore the night apart, busting out nothing but killer tunes.  The crew was amping hard on the evening, the drinks were cheap, the Daiquiris were more popular than tiger woods and the paparazzi right now and the mosh/dance floor was being torn apart.  The evening was very loose and the return bus trip was equally as enjoyable.  The night ended around 3 am with most feeling like that had just ran a marathon whilst drinking their favourite alcoholic beverage…

Sunday arrived with yet another sunny day, three consistent days of sun is unheard of in Tasmania - we had struck gold.

Sick of those events that die in the butt on Sunday and everyone goes home, we decided to pack Sunday just as full of fun as Saturday.  So the Seedy Sunday cruise headed its way to Kingston Beach around 11am, the idea was for all to kick back and chill down by the beach.  With great success we all arrived and kicked back until it was time to head to a very well known bar, known as “Joes Garage”.  This bar is smack bang in Hobart’s CBD and apart from serving some of the finest alcoholic beverages’ it has a shitload of Automotive/motorsport memorabilia on show and really makes for a great experience.  The crew lined the street in front of Joes , the landbruiser and LO91RL managed VIP access and parked inside.  Much to the delight of the seedy attendees, the barbeque was fired up and snags and hamburgers were selling like hotcakes.  The Public was invited to attend this great day and sure as hell they were out in force to cast their eyes on some fine trucks and customs.  Later in the day, a few excited folk decided to peel some tyres, first cab of the rank being DLA11D in his 500hp 2jz Hilux, who absolutely tore it apart and no doubt the council will have the hard task of repairing that piece of road this week.  Next up we had Tommo in the short wheel base Chev Silverado, who honestly did the biggest single spinner burnout Tasmanian has ever seen, a most impressive smoke show which was a great way to finish a fantastic day.

Sinister Minitrucks and Customs would like to thank all that attended Island Fever 2010, all our sponsors and those that hosted us over the weekend - CHEERS AND BEERS

We cant wait for 2011 and we hope to see you then!
